1963 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Limousine
Chassis No. 5VA77.
Registration Number 729 FXO
This is a lovely example of the Rolls-Royce Phantom V Limousine that dates from 1963 and wears elegant limousine coachwork by James Young. It’s one of 832 Phantom Vs produced from 1959 to 1968 and with the majority of these being bodied by Mulliner Park Ward, a mere 118 chassis were sent to James Young to be clothed in their sleek limousine coachwork. Only 59 of these were in right-hand drive and being bespoke, no two are exactly alike making #5VA 77 very rare and rather special.
It was supplied new to an owner in London’s Park Lane before being exported to the USA and finally returning to the UK in the 1970s.
It’s classically finished in Maroon over Black with a Gold coach line and presents really well with only a few minor age-related marks to the paintwork. The beige leather has undergone a complete leather revival process in the past and although the veneers are in solid condition, they would benefit from a light refresh. Pleasingly, the illuminated cocktail cabinet is still present with glasses and a decanter.
Mechanically the car has undergone complete recommissioning with over £30,000 being invested to achieve this, and consequently, it now drives beautifully, happily cruising with modern traffic.
This is an eminently usable Phantom Limousine and although there are tiny areas in need of cosmetic improvement, they are hardly noticeable and given its top mechanical condition it could be pressed into commercial service straight away or simply kept for family days out.
All chassis records are presented with the car in the RREC wallet along with a copy of the original handbook and we welcome any inspection of this rare James Young, Phantom V.
