1976 Porsche 911 2.7S Targa (LHD)

The first of countless upgrades to Porsche's perennial 911 came in 1966 with
the introduction of the 911S. Externally distinguishable by its stylish Fuchs
five-spoke alloy wheels, the 'S' featured a heavily revised engine producing 160bhp. The lengthened wheelbase introduced in 1969 improved the 911's
handling, and then in 1970, the air-cooled, 'flat-six' engine underwent the
first of many enlargements: to 2.2 litres. In 1974 all 911 variants received
the 2.7-litre unit, hitherto reserved for the Carrera when the latter went to 3.0
litres. Although in non-Carrera tune the 175bhp (DIN) 2.7-litre unit made
slightly less power than the old '2.4', it had been skilfully reworked to
produce significantly more torque over a much wider rev range and offered
noticeably improved acceleration. Coupled to a tolerance of low-lead petrol,
vastly superior fuel consumption, and increased tank capacity, the new 911
proved superior to its predecessor in every way as a fast, long-distance
tourer.
Fiennes Showroom are delighted to offer this superb example of a 911 2.7S
Targa classically presented in Guards Red with a black leather interior,
brushed-aluminium Targa roll-bar and the distinctive Fuchs alloys, all in
fantastic condition.
It’s a left-hand drive car that has spent much of its life in the dry state of
California before arriving in the UK and appears to have covered around
112,000 km (69,500 miles). It was purchased by its previous owner in 2017
and, in March 2020, respected marque specialists, Frances Tuthill were
tasked with carrying out an extensive mechanical recommission. This
included a complete overhaul of the K-Jet injection system, a new clutch and
flywheel along with a gearbox rebuild, brake overhaul, full oil service and
minor cosmetic detailing. In total around £15,000 was spent to deliver a
reliable and enjoyable driving experience.
Mid-seventies, G-Series classic 911s continue to be sought after and this
well-presented, on the button, 2.7S Targa top is not to be missed, so why not
come along, take it for a test drive and find out why 911 ownership is so
addictive
