Derby Bentley VDP Drophead Coupe
Chassis Number B53 LE
We have in our showroom a 1938 Derby Bentley 4.25 Vanden Plas drop head coupé, which started its life as one of two pre-war Bentleys (built by Rolls-Royce) that were exported to Czechoslovakia.
B53 LE returned to the UK in November 1938 and was issued with registration mark FUW 415 and the maroon coloured car, with a tan hood and light tan interior, has remained here ever since.
B53LE was sold in the late eighties as a restoration project and was restored to the original Vanden Plas design by Clanfield Restoration, who carried out the body and frame work, with Ristes Motor Company carrying out the major mechanical works.
This equated to a near £100,000 restoration back in the early 90s and in 2010
the car was purchased by the current owner who has meticulously maintained it to a very high standard and has enjoyed 23,000 miles of club events and European tours.
During this time further work has taken place with the addition of an overdrive fitted in 2014, flashing indicators, but maintained semaphores to work simultaneously, which a nice upgrade for modern motoring.
